Faucets

0390 FAUCET(S) INOPERATIVE / DAMAGED (handle only): Often faucets will be disconnected from their water source because of pipe failure beneath the ground. Some "inoperative" faucets are supplied by a valve at some other location unknown to the inspector Damaged faucets may include handles missing, frozen handles which cannot be turned, etc Faucets which have been cut loose from their source usually are left alone. If a new line is to be run be sure it is either a metal pipe or is properly buried if PVC plastic is to be used A frozen stem can often be freed by applying extra force to the handle after loosening the nut just below the handle. Be sure to turn off the water supply before trying this as you may break the faucet and flood the area. If the faucet does break it is a small loss since you would have to replace the faucet anyway. Parts and supplies to complete this job are readily available at Home Improvement Stores and Building Supply Outlets as well as from any Plumbing Supply Dealer If you are not equipped for plumbing repairs it is recommended that you contact a Plumbing Contractor for assistance.
