MASONRY / WOOD PLANTER DAMAGED / AMISS:
Planter walls which have dirt piled against them should be considered
retaining walls even though they may be very short vertically. The
pressure exerted by the dirt often pushes the walls out of position and
causes cracks and/or loosening of the blocks or bricks or whatever
material the planter may be constructed of Generally nothing can be done
to repair this situation short of removing all the dirt behind the wall,
pushing the wall back into position by pry bar, helical screws, or
jacks, followed by bracing with more blocks or concrete. Planter walls
should be replaced if severely damaged Contact a Masonry Contractor or
Landscape Contractor for assistance if necessary Wood deck close
to earth Extra maintenance and attention may be indicated
