SUBSIDENCE / SLIPPING / SLUMPING NOTED: The complete evaluation of site
conditions requires site maps and area geological surveys not available to most
real estate inspectors. This item is marked if the inspector sees signs
evidenced by cracks, slumps, slides, larger sunken areas, etc. on and around the
property or in the immediate vicinity Seldom will the inspector be able to
ascertain the cause of any subsidence. In some cases the cause may be leaky
underground water pipes, trench settlement or some other excavation backfill
settlement See Fig. 0040. The inspection process is an initial survey designed
to bring forth information which may lead to the need of further studies by
specialists such as Geologists, Soils engineers, Structural engineers, Leak
Detection Companies, etc. It is recommended that you refer this situation to a
Geologist or Soils Engineer for further evaluation.
